Hello everyone! In my latest video for Sogo Media TV, I briefly explore my understanding of God. I explain that Paul Tillich’s Ground of All Being is of central importance to my theology, and that my perspective is influenced by two books:
1. The God We Never Knew by Marcus Borg
2. Without Buddha, I Could Not Be A Christian by Paul Knitter
I share that for me, God is the expansive, all encompassing spirit to which we are all connected. We are all “in God” and a part of God. For me, concepts of God that place the Divine primarily “inside” individuals is limiting because they leave room for the possibility of exclusion. Enjoy!
Love “The God We Never Knew!” I remember you recommending “Without Buddha . . .” to me once before. Maybe that will be the next one on my list.
I recently began a Word study on “Presence” in Scripture. One of my initial impressions was how for Israel God was present in different ways simultaneously: in the land, at the door of the tabernacle, the Holy Place & the Holy of Holies. It struck me that the same is true in my life: I have concentric rings in my life circle of “degrees” of being present. Jesus also did with the disciples: the 120, 12, 3 & 1. So while Paul could tell unbelievers that in God we live and move and have our being (the ground of being you are talking about?), he could at the same time call them to receive Christ, receive His Spirit, and have a ‘full’ relational presence of God in their lives.
